Director - Producer
David Mitchell is from Chicago, Illinois and has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre and Business. He previously served as the Outreach Coordinator for the North Carolina Arts Council in the Department of Cultural Resources and was responsible for changing the cultural landscape of the state through several federally funded programs such as the Organization of Color Development Program and the Rural Arts Initiative, both funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. He has served as diversity consultants for arts organizations in North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Washington, D.C., Ohio, Texas, California and Oregon.
David established the Theatre Program at St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, NC and was also an Adjunct Professor of Theatre at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. David has directed youth theatre programs and theatre residencies throughout the United States. He served as Superintendent of Cultural Arts for the City of Asheville, North Carolina where he developed the Cultural Renaissance Arts Program that was bestowed the 2006 Gold Medal for Municipal Excellence as the leading municipal program in the nation. He also produced the largest festival in the southeast, Bele Chere in Asheville, NC and developed the Asheville Film Festival.
He has also produced and directed the National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, NC, the Spoleto and MOJA Festival in Charleston, SC, and the GOOMBAY Festival of Asheville, NC.
David has toured extensively with numerous theatrical productions. He has written, directed, and produced liturgical productions as a part of worship services for several churches throughout the United States. He is instructor for the Beverly Thomas Fine Arts Institute in Cassopolis, Michigan, and has served as the Drama Clinician for the Worship and Arts Week produced by United Methodist Church. He is presently the Connectional Director of Drama Ministry of the A.M.E. Church, and the program director for the Tipping Point Project in Hickory, Statesville, Shelby, Gastonia, and Asheville, North Carolina that has been funded by the US Department of Justice, the Lilly Foundation, United Arts Council of Catawba County, Gaston Arts Council,, and the North Carolina Arts Council. His goal is to implement youth arts programs in Gwinnett and DeKalb County.
David is presently the Program Manager for Habitat for Humanity DeKalb.
