On October 16th, Karen and Cat hosted "Your Voices Matter Youth Summit. This was the first in a series of community engagement events that the podcasters intend to host. The purpose of the summit was to hear and learn from the students of Shiloh and South Gwinnett High Schools. Students discuss the recent incidents of violence in their schools and what actions they would like administration to take. Students also had the opportunity to hear from community advocates working in mental health, conflict resolution and school disciplinary reform and learn strategies that could be implemented on the school level.
It is important to note, the Youth Summit was held prior to the more recent escalated events at other Gwinnett high schools which resulted in a stabbing at one school and a student loosing their life in an off campus shooting. This is a call to action.
Tune in for this thoughtful discussion as students, parents and community members look for ways to help students feel safe and thrive in their schools and community. If you are moved by this discussion, please join us in making change.
